John Russell (prohibitionist) : ウィキペディア英語版 | John Russell (prohibitionist) John Russell (18221912) was a Methodist preacher who became a leading advocate for prohibition during the 1870s. Russell helped organize the Prohibition Party, was its first National Committee Chairman,〔(Prohibition Party National Committee - History )〕 and was the party's running mate for James Black in the 1872 United States presidential election. As a journalist, Russell published the Detroit ''Peninsular Herald'' as the first prohibition newspaper.〔 〕 He was born in 1822 in Livingston, New York.
